Apple BKC is Apple's first flagship retail store in India, situated in Mumbai's financial center at Maker Maxity, Jio World Drive. Designed by renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners, the store features a stunning hand-crafted triangular timber ceiling that extends outwards into a cantilevered canopy, supported by an ultra-precise structural steel substructure.
Architectural Expression & Spatial Dynamics
The store represents the pinnacle of global retail architecture. Each triangular timber tile is assembled in a geometric pattern inspired by Mumbai's iconic cane weavers. The structural steel skeleton supporting the ceiling and 8-meter single-span glass facade had to be invisible, sleek, and fabricated to sub-millimeter tolerances with zero visible weld beads.
Structural Rigor & Critical Environmental Criteria
Ultra-Strict Dimensional Tolerances: Deflection limits on structural cantilever beams holding the full-height structural glass wall were restricted to L/1000 to prevent glass pane shear failure.
Bespoke Stainless Steel Surface Finishes: Interior SS 316L elements required a custom non-directional satin grit finish with strict reflectivity thresholds.
Complex Structural Acoustic Integration: The steel framework had to integrate lighting channels, sprinkler manifolds, and acoustic dampening baffles without compromising load paths.
